U.S. trade policy has been almost nonexistent in the months since Joe Biden became president of the United States. Biden has let Donald Trump’s tariffs stand. In a self-inflicted wound, the White House didn’t even try to renew the president’s trade promotion authority, which expired July 1.

The rest of the world isn’t waiting around to see what Washington does next. Japan recently ratified the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, solidifying an Asian trading bloc that Washington has all but ignored. Biden’s “Buy America” agenda can do only so much to benefit U.S. workers. Pursuing free trade would do much more.  Read More.
