Nigeria, others must industrialise to maximise AfCFTA, says UN

To maximise the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, Nigeria and other countries on the continent must embark on massive industrialisation, the United Nations Development Organisation has said.

Nigeria signed the AfCFTA last year. The agreement was to take off on July 1, 2020, but was delayed by the COVID-19 outbreak, which set back negotiations on the protocol for trade in goods, including tariff concessions.

UNIDO, African Union, United Nations Economic Commission For Africa, and the African Union Commission called on nations in Africa to intensify their respective industrialisation processes ahead of the take-off of the agreement in January next year. Read More.
