The heads of the World Trade Organization, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group and UN World Food Programme issued a joint statement on 8 February calling for an urgent response to the unprecedented food and nutrition security crisis. Noting 349 million people across 79 countries are acutely food insecure and the rising prevalence of undernourishment, the heads call on governments and donors to take urgent action to prevent a worsening of the crisis.
